Radar Systems Engineer

We are looking to recruit a Radar Systems Engineer to support ongoing development of our range of industry-leading Blighter surveillance radars. The Blighter radar is an advanced electronic surveillance device used to secure national borders and site perimeters.

The Radar Systems Engineer will be a key member of the team, taking responsibility for the system design of the radar including specifying the hardware architecture, RF performance characteristics, waveform design and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms. You will take ownership of the existing radar models and will develop and extend them to add new features and capabilities to the radar. Your tasks will also include radar trials analysis and preparation of antenna calibration data for the range of Blighter radars.

You will have a good mathematics, engineering or physics degree combined with practical experience of radar or communication system design. It is expected that you will use a variety of PC based software tools in the course of your work, including tools for mathematical analysis.

You will be self-motivated and organised with good time management skills, enabling you to work on your own. You will be able to efficiently communicate your ideas and designs to the implementation teams and sales & marketing staff

Although most of your work will be office-based, there may be opportunities to travel to assist with technical presentations and radar site analysis/optimisation. You will be expected to provide technical support to external customers, so good spoken and written English skills are essential.

You will have most of the following skills and abilities:
Mathematics, engineering or physics degree
Strong mathematical and analytical skills
Industry experience of radar or communication system design
Understanding of the radar equation and its influence on radar architecture, waveform design and signal processing methods
Knowledge of real-world radio effects (e.g. multipath, weather, clutter)
Use of Matlab, Mathcad or similar
Proficiency in a high level programming language

The following would also be an advantage:
Familiarity with microwave waveguide structures and electromagnetic (EM) simulation
Experience of patent preparation
